Livingston Parish deputies investigating vandalism of newly renovated Denham Spring soccer fields

DENHAM SPRINGS - The biggest soccer field at PARDS in Denham Springs was found vandalized on Monday morning. Maintenance workers say they found tire tracks and ruts all over field nine when they arrived. Now, the field is not safe for players.

"It's not hurting us, it's hurting the soccer community. It's hurting the kids," Sports Director at PARDS Jonathan Baio said.

It took more than a year to restore the field after last Summer's drought. The process cost upwards of $30,000 to ensure a quality playing surface is made and the irrigation is up to par.

"It's a blow to the heart, when you walk in and see this and you know how much time and effort went into it," Baio said.

Parents are upset and want to know who is responsible. Soccer clubs reached out to Baio and offered their space to PARDS for soccer games.

"You affected the whole community, you didn't just affect a soccer field," he said.

No games have been canceled and there is no time frame for when repairs will begin. Baio says he hopes they can start soon since PARDS soccer season ends in October.

As of now, investigators say there are no suspects.
