DENHAM SPRINGS - A WBRZ photographer and other good Samaritans helped rescue a woman from a burning car on Highway 63 Tuesday morning.

A 21-year-old woman, 7-months pregnant was driving on Highway 63 near Highway 444 when she apparently lost control, ran off the road and crashed into trees along the highway. After the crash, the sports car she was driving burst into flames.

WBRZ photographer Patrick Perry and News 2 anchor/reporter Brittany Weiss were following behind the woman on their way to an unrelated news story. Perry stopped the news unit he was driving and immediately ran to the burning car to get the woman out. Weiss grabbed a camera and started recording.

Perry was able to pull the woman from the passenger's side of the car, as flames burned an arm's reach away. As he told the woman to "hold on tight," he ran with her to the pavement. Others who stopped called 911 and joined Perry in comforting and holding the woman still until paramedics arrived.

"You cover stories like this but rarely witness a hero first hand," Weiss wrote on Facebook where she first shared the video of the rescue.

The driver, Caitlynn Godinez, was taken to the hospital. She is stable and out of the emergency room and was admitted into another unit of the hospital. According to Godinez's cousin, the baby is okay.

It is not clear what caused the single-vehicle crash.

Watch the attached video clip of the rescue.
