State Police identify victims in deadly Sorrento crash
SORRENTO –Police say three people died in a single vehicle crash on Airline Highway in Ascension Parish late Thursday night.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened in the early morning hours of May 18 just south of LA 22. Police began investigating Thursday night after a family member discovered the crashed vehicle. The crash took the lives of Thomas Jones, 23, Austin Kiernan, 22, and Sydney Persac, 19.
Investigators say the group was traveling northbound on Airline Highway when “for unknown reasons” ran off the right side of the road and struck an embankment. The vehicle became airborne and struck a tree.
State Police say the impact caused the vehicle to split in half and come to rest in a nearby bayou.

“It is unknown if Jones, Kiernan and Persac were restrained at the time of the crash, but they were all located outside the vehicle,” LSP said. The Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced them dead at the scene.
Troopers have not determined who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash or if impairment was a factor.
