BATON ROUGE - Southern University announced its football schedule for the upcoming season on Tuesday afternoon.

The Jaguars will open the first two weeks of the season on the road against University of Louisiana at Monroe and Tulane University.

The Jaguars will travel to ULM on Sept. 3 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. On Sept. 10, Southern will play against Tulane since the last time they played in 2002.

With the SWAC switching to a 7-game conference schedule in 2017, Southern opens the final year of the 9-game conference slate against Alabama State in the home opener on Sept. 17 in A.W. Mumford Stadium.

Southern closes out the first month of the season on the road at Alabama A&M on Sept. 24.

The Jags will then have back to back bye weeks during the first two weeks of October.

Then on Oct. 15, Southern travels to take on one of their rivals, Jackson State, in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The homecoming game will be on Oct. 22 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff before heading on the road to take on the two-time defending SWAC champion Alcorn State on Oct. 29.

November will open with The Jaguars hosting Texas Southern in A.W. Mumford Stadium on the 5th before playing on the campus of Prairie View A&M in the Panther's new stadium on the 12th.

Finally, Mississippi Valley State serves as the Jaguars' last home opponent on Nov. 19.

Southern concludes the season against rival Grambling State in the 43rd annual Bayou Classic in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Nov. 26.
