19-year-old accused of shooting man on Elmer Avenue
BATON ROUGE – Baton Rouge Police say a 19-year-old faces attempted manslaughter charges after a shooting on Elmer Avenue in Baton Rouge Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Elmer Ave. According to arrest records, officers found Lenard Nicholas suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. Nicholas was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Documents say that Nicholas’ child’s mother got into a fight with her brother, 19-year-old Willie Wilson III. After getting into a second fight with Nicholas, investigators say Wilson retrieved a handgun and shot Nicholas. Wilson then fled the scene with a handgun.
Police say Wilson later turned himself in to BRPD custody. Wilson told police that he shot Nicholas because he feared for his life because he knew Nicholas always carried a gun.
Wilson was charged with attempted manslaughter and illegal use of a weapon. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Wednesday morning.
