Month-long investigation results in nearly $2 million drug bust
ALEXANDRIA - Nearly two million dollars worth of drugs are off the streets of Central Louisiana, according to State Police.
State Police said after a month long investigation, authorities arrested Derrick Felton, 37, of Alexandria on Friday for possession of a large amount of illegal narcotics and a large sum of cash.
Investigators began investigating Felton for distribution of methamphetamine earlier this month, State Police said. Through information obtained from the investigation, investigators were able to obtain warrants for multiple residences in Alexandria, according to State Police.
Before the search warrants could be executed, Felton was located driving a vehicle in Alexandria which resulted in a traffic stop, State Police said.
According to State Police, investigators located a large amount of illegal narcotics along with a large amount of cash inside the vehicle.
Felton was arrested and said search warrants were executed, State Police said.
The search warrants resulted in the seizure of a large amount of narcotics and cash.

State Police reported that the street value of the drugs seized Friday is approximately 1.7 million dollars.
Approximately 1.5 million dollars worth of crystal methamphetamine was seized (over 64 lbs.), $120,000.00 worth of heroin (over 2 lbs.), over $100,000.00 worth of cocaine (over 2 lbs.), and over $3,000.00 worth of promethazine with syrup (five pints), according to State Police.
Investigators also seized over $67,000.00 in cash, State police said.
"This is a prime example of what happens when law enforcement works together," State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson said in a press release. "The Louisiana State Police stand committed to work with all of our law enforcement partners to pursue those who promote illegal narcotics in our communities."
According to State Police, Felton was charged with:
- One count of possession with the intent to distribute CDS I (controlled dangerous substance), heroin
- One count of possession with the intent to distribute CDS II, cocaine
- One count of possession with the intent to distribute CDS II, crystal methamphetamine
- One count of possession with the intent to distribute CDS V, promethazine syrup
Felton was also charged with resisting arrest by flight and failure to signal lane change, State Police said.
Agencies involved in the investigation include: Louisiana State Police, Alexandria Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI Central Louisiana Safe Streets Task Force), Louisiana Probation and Parole, United States Postal Inspector's Office, Pineville Police Department, Louisiana Army National Guard Counter Drug Unit, the Rapides Parish District Attorney's Office, and the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office.
This investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are likely, according to State Police.
Felton was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on the aforementioned charges.
