After manhunt in West Baton Rouge, arrest warrant filed for alleged kidnapping suspect
LAFAYETTE – A woman kidnapped in Lafayette and found in the Baton Rouge area had an ongoing domestic dispute with her alleged captor, police released Monday.
The unidentified woman was abducted Sunday afternoon in Lafayette Parish and found a few hours later, safe, in the Baton Rouge area. Police have released very little information and have withheld some specifics but WBRZ learned a large search in West Baton Rouge Sunday evening was connected to the woman's disappearance.
Authorities have only said the woman was located unharmed after being forcefully removed from her home about an hour west. Authorities in West Baton Rouge searched for hours around La. 415 in the Lobdell area for whom they said were two suspects tied to the crime. Late Sunday, local authorities called off the search.
Monday, an arrest warrant was filed for one suspect – identified as Lawrence Michael Handly, 49, of Lafayette. Handley is wanted on charges of kidnapping, attempted kidnapping and violation of a protective order.
It is not clear what, if any, connection those involved have with the Baton Rouge area or if they were just trying to pass through when the situation unfolded here Sunday evening.
