FRENCH SETTLEMENT -  A high school couple in Livingston Parish had to fight for their tickets to the Prom.

Two gay students from French Settlement High School were told this morning they could not go to the prom together. One of the teen's mother called WBRZ News 2, and we started asking questions. The Livingston Parish School Superintendent was very interested too, and after all the curiosity, school administrators changed their tune.

The two boys, one a junior and one a sophomore, went to get their tickets to the prom, scheduled for Saturday. That's when the school's assistant principal disrupted their plans. One of the boys took out his phone and texted his mother, Tamblie Babin, and she called the school to ask about the hold up.

"I asked her why Raymond couldn't take his boyfriend to prom, and she said that they didn't allow same sex to go to prom together, that it was against school regulations," Babin said.

The problems started piling up. Her son, Raymond was suspended and sent home, for using his cell phone to text his mom for help. Suspended students aren't allowed to attend school functions. WBRZ News 2 called the school superintendent. He promised to get to the bottom of the situation. He said he wouldn't tolerate any discrimination in the school district.

The superintendent also told WBRZ News 2, he would be thoroughly investigating the incident. It is unclear if the school administrator will be reprimanded.
