LIVINGSTON PARISH – All Livingston Parish school students will be returning to school on Sept. 12 since last month's flood.

With the return, parish school officials have announced some relocation measures that will be in place after some schools were damaged and many students were displaced by recent record flooding.

According to Superintendent Rick Wentzel, most students will attend their regular schools and maintain their normal class schedule. However, students at Denham Springs Elementary and Southside Elementary will be assigned to other campuses, depending on their grade level as follows:

Denham Springs Elementary
Pre-K, K, 1st and 2nd grades to attend Eastside Elementary
3rd, 4th and 5th grades to attend Freshwater Elementary

Southside Elementary
Pre-K, K and 1st grades to attend Lewis Vincent Elementary
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades to attend Juban Parc Elementary

Four schools will be stationed at nearby campuses, creating an abbreviated morning and afternoon class for the two schools that share a site. The host school's students will attend class from 6:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m., while the visiting school's students will attend class from 12:25 p.m. to 5:37 p.m.

The pairings are as follows:
Live Oak High School host to Denham Springs High School
Live Oak Middle School host to Denham Springs Freshman High
Juban Parc Junior High host to Southside Junior High
Springfield Middle School host to Springfield High School

Wentzel said that all school cafeterias in the parish will operate as normal and all students will be allowed to eat free through Sept. 30. He also said that the district plans to revamp its academic calendar to create make-up days.

Wentsel urges parents to visit www.lpsb.org for more information, and to be on the lookout for phone and email messages from their child's school.
