Homeowner fights off robbers; suspects shot in second botched robbery
BATON ROUGE - Deputies are investigating after one person was hurt in a shooting off Heritage Estates Tuesday morning.
The normally quiet subdivision was swarming with investigators from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office Monday night.
The shooting happened around 11 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Heritage Estates Drive and N. Colony Way. The victim tells WBRZ News 2 that a man came into his home with a ski mask and AR15 and demanded money.
"I charged him," the victim said. I grabbed the gun, wrestled him to the driveway. It went off twice in the air."
Deputies say the victim grabbed the rifle and wrestled with the robber. During the scuffle, the victim was shot one time and fell to the ground. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.
"I asked him not to shoot me," the victim said. "I didn't try to get up and get aggressive with him, and he shot me... in the rear."
Detectives believe the man's attackers were shot by a homeowner in Breaux Bridge during another botched robbery Tuesday morning. Those men have been identified as Joseph Broussard and Drew Schexnider. The duo remains in critical condition. EBRSO is working with authorities in St. Martin Parish in this investigation.
