KENTWOOD -  A head-on car crash on LA38 resulted in the death of 59-year-old, Phillip Williams from Kentwood.

Louisiana State Troopers from Troop L responded to to the crash around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.  38-year-old Matthew Peek was driving a GMC truck westbound on LA 38 and Williams was driving a Dodge truck eastbound when Peek’s truck crossed into the east bound travel lanes.

Williams drove onto the right shoulder to avoid Peek’s truck, but Williams’ truck was hit head on.

Both Williams and Peek were severely injured in the crash. Williams was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead around 1:30 a.m. on Monday.

Peek was taken to North Oaks Medical Center where he was treated for moderate injuries.

Troopers obtained blood samples from both drivers and were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
