BATON ROUGE - Authorities say at least two people are dead and four others are injured after a violent night in Baton Rouge.

At least five shootings took place between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning according to the Baton Rouge Police Department. 

Sources confirmed to WBRZ that the most recent of the shootings occurred at 1188 Rosenwald Road. Authorities say 22-year-old Craig Thomas was found dead near his car from a gunshot wound. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

According to authorities, the first shooting occurred in the 6800 block of Cezanne Avenue just before 10:00 p.m. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Armajae Smith. An autopsy is pending.

Another person, a 28-year-old male, was injured in the shooting on Cezanne Ave., according to BRPD. He sustained apparent gunshot injuries. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome was on the scene of the Cezanne Avenue shooting Monday night and on Tuesday released this statement addressing the violent night: 

“Again, our community experienced gun violence. There were multiple shootings in a number of neighborhoods last night in our city. I witnessed a number of concerned citizens wondering if their family members were among the deceased. I also witnessed many spectators. We need people who witness the violence to say something. Do not be afraid to protect your own neighborhoods and families. Law enforcement officers are here to help, but they must know about these situations to get these criminals off our streets. This violence must stop... now. However, it takes all of us to make this happen.”


Baton Rouge Police officers then say one person was shot on Scotland Avenue. That victim arrived at the hospital shortly after. 

Authorities also responded to another shooting in the 2000 block of Lobdell Blvd. a short time after.

Tuesday, a resident who lives next to the shooting victims at the Lobdell shooting scene echoed Broome’s statement, asking for the community to rally together. 

“We got to want to change this thing, we got to want to do it. If we don't do it, everyone will be moving as individuals,” Tyson said. 

Baton Rouge Interim Police Chief Jonny Dunnam is also encouraging the public to help law enforcement close cases by coming forward with information. 

“Obviously we're asking for the public’s assistance. If anybody saw anything, and we think that some people did witness these incidents, we hope they would come forward.” Encouraged Dunnam. Authorities have not said if any of the shootings are connected at this time but said extra patrols, adding, the department has all hands on deck in the five shooting investigations.

On the other hand, House Representative C. Denise Marcelle, said Tuesday that asking for witnesses won't help... and is vying for funds to implement more 'crime cameras' around East Baton Rouge.

It is unclear at this time if the shootings are related, and the condition of the victims from the Lobdell Blvd. and St. Vincent De Paul Dr. shootings remain unknown.

Authorities say Monday night marked the 93rd homicide in East Baton Rouge Parish this year.
