BATON ROUGE- An 18-wheeler crashed and caught fire early this morning on I-10 East at Perkins Poad.

The accident took place around 4:45 Friday morning.

I-10 East at Perkins Road was temporarily closed, and traffic delays had reached past LA 415 in Lobdell.

Hazmat was on the scene to investigate. The scene was deemed safe.

The right and center lanes remain blocked on I-10 East at Perkins Road due to vehicle recovery operations. Traffic congestion has reached LA 1 (Port Allen) on I-10 East and Government Street on I-110 South. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
