Denham Springs High School holds pep rally ahead of first game since flooding
DENHAM SPRINGS - Denham Springs high school sent the message out at their pep rally Thursday night that their team, and community, are okay. And they're ready for some football.
The pep rally comes a day before the Yellow Jackets first game of the season. For many, it will be the first sense of normalcy in the community, since the flood.
"We want to focus on the victory over the flood," Principal Kelly N. Jones said as students cheered from the stands.
The high school received heavy water damage from the August flood which completely covered the now dry football field. After having their jerseys, cleats and locker room destroyed, a month later, The Yellow Jackets are at least somewhat back on their feet.
The school made a promise to the players, students and fans that the flood wouldn't wash away this football season. That promise, fulfilled tonight through support of the community, the support of the Saints, and the hard working young athletes in purple and yellow.
