UPDATE: An embattled band director at Denham Springs High is no longer with the school after allegations of inappropriate behavior at his former job, WBRZ learned Tuesday.

Carlye Latas, the assistant director, has been promoted to director.

DENHAM SPRINGS - The newly-hired Denham Springs High School band director has been placed on administrative leave after a report emerged of an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student at a Texas high school where he previously worked, Livingston Parish School Board member Karen Schmitt confirmed Monday night.

Schmitt said Vincent Fortado was placed on leave last week.

Fortado was placed on leave by Brazoswood High School in March 2013 after allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a female student, according to a report from Brazosport Facts. Fortado later resigned after police opened an investigation into allegations of misconduct.

According to the Texas Education Agency, Fortado was issued an "inscribed reprimand" in Dec. 2013. The TEA defines that as "formally published censure appearing on the face of an educator's certificate," but the reprimand would not affect the validity of Fortado's teaching certificate.
