BATON ROUGE – Police say a Baton Rouge Police Officer remains in ICU after a crash on I-12 two weeks ago.

The crash happened shortly after midnight on March 21 on I-12 east. According to Zachary Police, officer Rickey Faust was responding to a hold up alarm when he tried to pass a car on I-12.

Investigators say the other car and the officer moved into the left lane at the same time. Faust then tried to move back into the right lane and lost control of his vehicle and struck a concrete median wall.

Police say Faust suffered major injuries to his spine, broken ribs and severe bruising. He remains on a respirator after undergoing two spinal surgeries and other procedures to remove fluid from his lungs. Zachary Police say it’s unknown at this time whether additional surgeries are needed or how long Faust will remain in ICU.

Faust and his wife, Jodi, have two children, ages eight and ten. Faust’s wife has taken leave from her job so she can stay at his side. The family was also recovering from the August flood when the accident happened.

Faust is a former Zachary Police Officer. A fundraiser has been established to help the Faust family. Click here to donate.
