BATON ROUGE - Police have arrested a man four years after he allegedly strangled a woman while she was jogging around the LSU lakes.

On Monday, police announced the arrest of 26-year-old Akeem Yarbrough of Brusly in connection with the 2013 attack. According to BRPD, the 30-year-old victim was jogging along East Lakeshore Drive with headphones on when a man came up behind her and put her in a stranglehold.

The victim told police she briefly lost consciousness before waking up to find Yarbrough on top of her, punching her in the stomach. Yarbrough allegedly fled after the victim began screaming.

The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab used DNA from the victim’s clothes to identify Yarbrough as a suspect. He is arrested on charges of attempted second-degree kidnapping and second-degree battery.
