BRPD: 16-year-old dies Saturday after accidental shooting

BATON ROUGE - Police confirmed the death of a 16-year-old  girl shot in the head Thursday.

A spokesperson for Baton Rouge Police confirmed that Darneisha Williams died Saturday afternoon. 

Williams was shot in the head on Brady Street by a 16-year-old male family member. The shooting was ruled accidental and the unidentified boy was charged with negligent injuring and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

Detectives are still investigating how the boy got the gun.

Williams was a Broadmoor High School student.  Grief counselors were on hand Friday at the school to deal with the tragedy.

The shooting was reported on Brady Street, which runs from Plank, across North Acadian and North 38th to Delaware Street.

Police say the shooting is still under investigation. Stay tuned to WBRZ News 2 for updates as more information becomes available.
