BATON ROUGE - Murphy Paul has been named the new Baton Rouge Police Chief.
Mayor Sharon Weston Broome named Paul to the position today during a press conference. Originally there were 12 candidates vying for the job. Half of the applicants have ties to the Baton Rouge Police Department – having either served or currently serving on the force. Others are from Monroe, State Police, and university police agencies.
The Police Chief Selection Committee interviewed the candidates and provided Broome with recommendations.
Eventually the list was narrowed down to five candidates. The top five candiates included Ronald Stevens, Robert McGarner, Myron Daniels, Murphy Paul and Darryl Honore.
