Body of janitorial worker found in closet at ExxonMobil refinery
BATON ROUGE – The body of a janitorial worker was found in a supply closet of a building on the ExxonMobil refinery property Monday.
According to EMS, the body was found in a building in the 4000 block of Scenic Highway around 8 a.m. An Exxon employee told WBRZ News 2 that the body was that of a female janitorial worker and had been in a supply closet since Friday. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office confirmed all but the time of death pending a further review.
"We can confirm that a deceased individual was discovered [Monday] morning in a building located in the ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery," the oil company said in a statement.
"The cause of death has not been determined, and an investigation is currently being conducted. Our thoughts are with the individual's family during this difficult time."
According to preliminary sources, EMS responded to an unrelated medical call at the refinery and while on the scene found one dead person. The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner said that an autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.
