PLAQUEMINE - Louisiana State Police identified the body of a man found in a ditch along Highway 404 and Highway 75 Wednesday.

Officerss say 46-year-old Randy L. Romig of Plaqumeine was killed after he was hit by a pickup truck Monday.

According to investigators, Romig was walking along Highway 75 around 9 p.m. Monday when, for reasons still under investigation, he was hit by a pickup truck.

Officers identified the driver of the pickup truck as 56-year-old Darrell Spencer of Plaquemine. Investigators say following the crash, Spencer contacted the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office and told them he thought he struck an object near the side of the road. When they arrived on scene, deputies and Spencer searched the area, but were unable to find anything he may have struck.

Romig's family searched along Highway 75 Wednesday where they knew he had been walking Monday night. Family members located Romig's body in a ditch along the roadway.

Investigators do not believe Spencer was impaired the night of the crash.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab assisted in the investigation.
