Homeowners in Sherwood Forest selling flood-damaged homes

BATON ROUGE – Stuck without flood insurance, some homeowners in the Sherwood Forest area are putting their flood-damaged homes up for sale.
Many of the homeowners do not want to start over by rebuilding homes that are already paid for. Throughout the neighborhood are signs lying in the middle of piles of debris with the hand-written words "House for Sale."
Jim Miller, 82, has lived in his Sherwood Forest home for 25 years.
"You pretty much think you are pretty well off for retirement, then all of a sudden your whole world has changed," Miller said.
Miller did not have flood insurance and says that he is prepared to take a huge loss by selling his water-damaged home as is.
"If someone calls with a good offer, I will take it.," Miller said.
Miller says that he is already getting offers on his home. A number of other neighbors plan to do the same as Miller. One of them being Philip Arena, who has lived in his home for 44 years.
"I don't know how much I will even get for the house, but I'll definitely lose. I already paid for this house, so whatever I get, I'll have a note," Arena said.
