Fans' Choice: Emile Picarella

BATON ROUGE- A state championship is well within reach for the University High Cubs this season with junior quarterback Emile Picarella leading the way.

Picarella transferred to U-High this year and has made his presence known by throwing for 27 touchdowns and completing 74% of his passes.

Picarella is a four star talent as a junior and is highly recruited by some of the top schools in the country. His head coach, Andy Martin, says that he has become better at reading defenses and getting the ball into the hands of the playmakers.

"I think right now, he's throwing the deep ball really well. He came in throwing it pretty well, but again what he's able to do now is understand where his wide receivers are going to be, and kind of understand how it fits within our scheme. He does a really good job with managing the game. He knows what Coach Vice wants to do, and does a good job of getting it into our playmakers hands," Martin says.

There are playmakers all over the field for Picarella to throw to. This Cubs offense has put up high numbers all year, and being surrounded by such great talent has made the transition to a new program easier for Picarella.

"It's such a secured feeling having them because you look on the other side of the ball, and you're like 'yea I trust my guys,' because we have such great talent on this team, and the coaches have helped us a lot with that, with humbling ourselves and just taking it down by down and stuff like that," Picarella said.

The Cubs had a bye in the first round of the playoffs, but will host Patrick Taylor this Friday for round two. Picarella plans to announce his college commitment after the season ends.
