19-year-old mother gunned down on Gus Young Avenue

BATON ROUGE - Police arrested two suspects Monday after a shooting left a 19-year-old woman dead last week.
The shooting was reported after 10 p.m. Thursday on Gus Young Avenue, according to officials. Police identified 19-year-old Erneisha Barnes as the victim.

Police say the shooter, who was traveling in a red Chevrolet Trailblazer, fired several shots into the vehicle Barnes was traveling in. Barnes was in the passenger seat of the vehicle when she was shot.
Barnes was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

On Monday police announced the arrests of 30-year-old Ashley Taylor and 27-year-old Donnie Spencer in connection with the deadly shooting. Officers believe the shooters were targeting the driver of the vehicle Barnes was riding in. It's also believed the shooting may have stemmed from an ongoing argument.
Taylor has been arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. Spencer is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
