WATCH: Seafood truck bursts into flames under westside fuel canopy Tuesday
PORT ALLEN - Incredible dash camera video captured firefighters working to contain a massive, tractor-trailer fire under a fuel canopy Tuesday.
Witnesses said the fire spread quickly, giving people almost no time to react.
"By the time they shut the fuel off, the truck was engulfed in flames," Robert Harmon, a driver who witnessed the event, told WBRZ.
Customers ran in all directions away from the flames as firefighters ran toward the fire. They had to work fast to keep a catastrophe from happening.
"It was pretty bad," a witness said.
The truck was hauling frozen shrimp from California. The two men inside said the refrigeration unit on the tractor started smoking as they pulled under the canopy for fuel and not long after the entire truck was on fire.
The fuel station, on La. 415 south of I-10 near the on-ramp toward I-10 East, was damaged. Luckily, no one was hurt.
