BATON ROUGE - People gathered Friday night in the neighborhood where a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed this past weekend to honor his memory.

A candlelight vigil was held in the 1800 block of North 17th Street in memory of Desmond Bryant. People left mementoes such as stuffed animals, balloons and flowers near where the shooting happened.

Police said Bryant was shot while riding in a vehicle on Dec. 13, and he later died from his injuries. The 20-year-old driver of that vehicle had minor injuries from the shooting.

Baton Rouge Police arrested 20-year-old Carson Thomas on Monday in connection with the killing. He was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
