Kennedy, Campbell advance to December U.S. Senate runoff
BATON ROUGE – A tight race for Louisiana's vacant U.S. Senate seat resulted in a runoff between State Treasurer John Kennedy and Democratic challenger Foster Campbell.
Kennedy is a Republican and Campbell is a Democrat. Whoever is elected in December replaces U.S. Senator David Vitter, a Republican, who announced after his losing gubernatorial campaign last year that he would leave politics.
Twenty-four people campaigned for a spot in the expected runoff election for U.S. Senator including current members of Louisiana's congressional delegation.
