BATON ROUGE - Two people were arrested Sunday night after a shootout left one person injured on Hundred Oaks Avenue.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said two people in vehicles, 46-year-old Lawrence Brooks and 33-year-old Marley Banks, exchanged gunfire Sunday morning while driving on Hundred Oaks Avenue just off South Acadian Thruway.

According to police, Banks was driving along Balis Street with a passenger when Brooks started following their car.

The passenger said she called police and told them she was being followed by Brooks.

Officers said Banks tried to drive away from Brooks but he blocked the car in the 3500 block of Hundred Oaks Avenue, got out of his vehicle and began shooting at Banks and the other passenger.

Police said the other passenger pulled out a gun and shot back, hitting Brooks. According to police, he drove himself to the hospital and was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Brooks was arrested for two counts of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Banks was also arrested and booked for obstruction of justice and felon of possession of a firearm.
