Teen killed, one other seriously injured in Belle Rose crash
BELLE ROSE - State Police say one teen was killed and another seriously injured in a crash in Assumption Parish Wednesday night.
15-year-old Sydny Landry died in the wreck. A second 12-year-old girl was seriously injured.
Investigators say 38-year-old Frannie Landry, of Belle Rose, was using her vehicle to transport her garbage cans to the highway near her residence on LA 1000 at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The girls were riding on the tailgate of her vehicle. The wreck happened as 21-year-old Corey Crochet, of Belle Rose, was approaching in the westbound lane. He tried to turn his pickup truck to avoid a collision but struck Landry’s vehicle.
The girls were thrown from the tailgate with Sydny sustaining fatal injuries. The Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office declared her dead at the scene. The other girl was airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

Investigators say impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Both Landry and Crochet submitted breath samples at the scene of the wreck and alcohol was not detected in their systems. Neith was injured in the crash.
