Strong storms blow roof off Alexandria car wash and onto nearby Pizza Hut
ALEXANDRIA - Strong storms rolled through Central Louisiana early Monday afternoon, blowing the roof of a car wash off and onto the roof of a nearby Pizza Hut in Alexandria.
Alexandria Police said two Pizza Hut employees were taken to an area hospital where they were treated for minor injuries prior to being released. Several customers rode the storm out inside of the restaurant, but no injuries were reported among those individuals. The incident happened on Lee Street, a relatively highly traffic area of Alexandria.
Both the car wash and Pizza Hut sustained significant damage during the storm. A Rapides Parish firefighter happened to be close to the area when the roof came loose, and was able to help secure the scene.
Local news sources reported the National Weather Service in Lake Charles had yet to confirm whether the incident was the result of a torando or "straight-line winds," which are normally associated with damage of this type. Confirmation on that may not come until Tuesday with a tornado watch remaining in effect until 6 p.m. in Rapides Parish.
