Stonewall Man arrested for insurance fraud
STONEWALL — A Stonewall Man was arrested for arson Tuesday after he intentionally set his truck on fire to collect insurance money, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
Deputies with the State Fire Marshal's Office investigated a vehicle fire that happened in early January, where a 2024 Chevrolet pickup truck was engulfed in flames.
Investigators later determined the truck belonged to 44-year-old Thomas Tyler.
The DeSoto Parish Fire Department responded to the fire around 4 a.m. and discovered Thomas's truck on I-49 Southbound just before the Mansfield exit. Crews were able to successfully put out the fire.
SFM deputies questioned Tyler, and he stated the fire started because he tossed a cigarette out of the window, and it ignited a gas can in the bed of the truck.
Throughout the investigation, officials said Tyler recanted his story and confessed to the crime.
