LOTTIE - Louisiana State Police have identified the victim of a fatal crash on US 190 in Pointe Coupee Parish Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, 64-year-old Henry Baise of Lottie was killed in the crash.

Police say a state trooper was traveling eastbound on US 190 before 11 a.m., while Baise was driving his vehicle on a private driveway on the south side of the highway. As Baise pulled his car from the drive onto US 190, he entered that path of the trooper's vehicle, colliding and eventually winding up in a ditch on the westbound side of the roadway.

Baise was properly restrained, but sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash, according to police. They say Baise was transported to Pointe Coupee General Hospital in New Roads where he was later pronounced dead.

The trooper was also properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries in the crash, according to police. The trooper was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Routine toxicology samples will be taken from both drivers for analysis. Police are still investigating the incident.

DOTD says the eastbound lane of US 190 remained closed at LA 81 until about 4:45 p.m. due to the crash. Traffic was being diverted on to LA 81 North to LA 77 South back to US 190 East.
