Scotlandville High athlete, one of the top in the nation, signs with LSU Basketball
BATON ROUGE - One of the most sought-after high school recruits in the country can be found right here in Baton Rouge, and he doesn't plan on moving away anytime soon.
Scotlandville High School's Ja'Vonte Smart is a 5-star prospect, ranked No. 17 in the overall recruiting class according to Scout.com. On Thursday, he officially signed with the LSU Basketball team.
The 6-foot-4 student-athlete joined the LSU family in a signing ceremony at the Scotlandville gym Wednesday afternoon.
“I have family, friends and fans who have been following me, watching me play for a while,” Smart told the Advocate Wednesday. “Staying home and playing at LSU makes it easier for everybody, especially my mom, to come see me play. That is just part of it. With the guys LSU has and the guys coming, I feel like we can do big things.”
