Repairs to flooded Southern University library could take weeks
BATON ROUGE - Officials at Southern University say a ruptured brought on by icy weather caused flooding in the school's library Thursday.
According to a post from the school, the incident happened around 9 a.m. Thursday after a major water line burst. The school says the line was carrying chilled water to the mechanical room on the rooftop of the John B Cade Library.
An update released by school officials Friday states that it will take two weeks to dry and removed damaged carpet and sheet rock. A third party company has been secured to test the water throughout the library to rule out any airborne issues.
Video posted by PenPoint News captured the scene after the pipe ruptured.
Everyone is asked to avoid the area while maintenance crews are assess the situation and coordinate remediation and water extraction.
