HOUSTON- A baby girl that went missing after her mother was murdered earlier this week was found unharmed at a southwest side apartment, according to Houston police.

KHOU reports that 6-week-old Shamail Flores appeared to be unharmed but was taken to an area hospital as a precaution. Authorities have charged 28-year-old Erica Miranda-Alvarez with the capital murder for the death of the girl's mother Carolina Flores. The little girl's mother was found fatally stabbed Tuesday afternoon in an apartment complex.

According to investigators, Miranda-Alvarez knew the victim through the victim's brother. She allegedly killed the mother and took her baby in an attempt to cover up her own miscarriage, according to police.

Police along with SWAT officers and the FBI arrested Miranda-Alvarez outside an apartment complex around 1 a.m. Thursday. Miranda-Alvarez was with her boyfriend when she was arrested. The boyfriend remains under investigation but is not charged with any crimes, according to KHOU.
