ZACHARY - Police say they've recovered the body of a work release inmate who allegedly murdered a woman after he walked off of a job site in August.

On Wednesday, the Zachary Police Department announced 39-year-old Alvin Dixon's body was discovered September 7, ending an extended search in Mississippi River.

On August 26, police say the body of Aleshia Dixon was discovered near Highway 19 in Zachary. Authorities believe she was murdered by Alvin Dixon.

According to police, Alvin Dixon was a work release inmate out of East Feliciana Parish Prison. They added that Dixon was working at Premiere Produce in Zachary off of Highway 19 when he disappeared Saturday.

Authorities say Dixon previously had a long-term relationship with the victim, clarifying that they were neither married nor related.
