BATON ROUGE - Police released the name of a cyclist who officers said was killed in a crash early Sunday morning in Baton Rouge.

Cpl. Don Coppola said 45-year-old Ernest Smith Jr. died in the wreck, which happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 6500 block of Plank Road.

Investigators said Smith was riding north on the shoulder of Plank Road when a pickup driven by 39-year-old Eric Glover went off the roadway and hit Smith's bicycle. Police said Smith later died at the hospital.

Coppola said Glover was charged with driving while intoxicated, vehicular homicide, reckless operation and driving with a suspended driver's license. He also said their investigation into the wreck is continuing.
