'Person of interest' in custody after shooting that left mother, teenage daughter dead
HAMMOND - Deputies took someone into custody after a mother and her teenage daughter were found shot to death inside their home over the weekend, though law enforcement would not say whether that person was being booked on criminal charges.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's deputies said the two victims were found by a family member who came to the home and then called 911 at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Brandy Smith, 37, and Raven Smith, 17, were killed, deputies said Saturday afternoon.
The shooting happened on Stephenson Lane, a dead-end street off Old Baton Rouge Highway near the intersection with Happywoods Road.
Monday, deputies said a person of interest had been taken into custody amid the investigation, but criminal charges for the homicides have not yet been doled out. The sheriff's office did not release the individual's identity but said the shooting was being investigated as a domestic homicide.
