BATON ROUGE - A man accused of ambushing his girlfriend's new dating partner and fatally shooting him at his workplace claims he didn't intend to kill anyone.

Trebien Adams, 22, is accused of shooting Neville Allen, 22, Tuesday at the Louisiana Culinary Institute on Arnold Lane, a short distance from the intersection of Airline Highway and Jefferson Highway. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says the attack left Neville Allen gravely wounded, and he died in the hospital the next day.

Hours after deputies confirmed Allen's death, Adams was booked for second-degree murder in the killing.

According to the sheriff's office, surveillance video showed Adams pulling into the parking lot of Allen's workplace and surveying the area just moments before the attack. Once he spotted Allen talking on his phone outside, Adams is seen on the video retrieving a shotgun from his vehicle. 

Adams then allegedly pointed the gun at Allen, who threw his hands up in the air. Investigators say Adams then shot the victim in the chest and fled the area in his car. 

Investigators described Adams as a "jealous boyfriend," who admitted he went to the location to confront his girlfriend's new dating partner. Investigators later learned that Allen had been receiving threatening texts, phone calls and letters outside his home since he began dating the woman at the center of the feud.

According to arrest documents released late Wednesday afternoon, Adams said he only planned to use the weapon as a scare tactic and was under the impression the firearm was unloaded.

Adams revealed that another individual, later identified as Jarquin Handy, had provided him with the weapon and told him it wasn't loaded. Handy was present with Adams at the time and admitted he did nothing to help the victim after the shooting. 

Adams was additionally booked for illegal use of a weapon along with his murder charge. The sheriff's office also booked Handy later that afternoon as a principal to second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
