UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as 42-year-old Derrick Dewayne Gardner of Baker.

Officers say Gardner was crossing Evangeline when he was struck by a white or light grey 1992-1996 model Ford F-150. Possible damage to the Ford will be around front passenger side and headlight area.

BATON ROUGE - Police say one person is dead after being struck in a hit-and-run crash on Thanksgiving Day.

The crash was reported around 4:30 p.m. in the 5800 block of Evangeline. Authorities a man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The victim was pronounced dead within hours of the crash, police said.

BRPD has yet to release any info concerning the victims identity or a possible suspect.
