With another Heat Advisory posted, limit your outdoor work routines and exercise. Frequent breaks are suggested with lots of H2O. Now for a "Cool" story...Possibly the easiest part of the Emperor Penguin's existence is when the female lays the egg. They live on the Antarctic ice where temperatures can drop as low as -140 degrees F. After mating, the female lays one large egg which is immediately rolled to the top of the male's feet. The male keeps it warm by a thick fold of skin that hangs from its belly. Males survive by standing huddled in groups for nine weeks, constantly balancing the egg and losing almost half of their body weight. The female travels back over the ice to capture fish and squid. When the egg hatches, the female returns to care for the chic and the male goes to the open sea to feed. Both male and female tend to the chick by keeping it warm and feeding it food from their stomachs. Years ago, the movie entitled "March of the Penguins," narrated by Morgan Freeman is another example of the penguins.
