PONCHATOULA - Authorities said no one was hurt after a passenger train and 18-wheeler collided Tuesday afternoon in Tangipahoa Parish.

The collision happened on US 51 at I-55 around 3 p.m. according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

State Police are on the scene assisting the sheriff's office, who is investigating the crash according to a TPSO spokesperson.

Amtrak told WWL-TV the train was carrying 83 passengers and was on its way to Hammond before continuing toward Chicago. The rail line said an engineer was taken to a local hospital to be checked as a precaution, and the train will continue once police are done with their investigation.
