NFL player's dad killed in airport shooting Tuesday
OKLAHOMA CITY — The father of an NFL player was shot and killed at the Oklahoma City airport Tuesday afternoon.
Police closed the airport after finding one victim lying in front of a ticket counter. The person was shot in the parking lot of the airport, police said. After first wondering if there was a second victim, police later said it appears there was only one victim.
Later, police confirmed the victim was 52-year-old Michael Winchester, the father of James Winchester of the Kansas City Chiefs. Michael Winchester, who also played football in college, was a Southwest employee and was killed in the shooting.
People were told to shelter in place while police worked the scene and searched for a shooter.
Federal authorities are handling the investigation.
There are no flights between Oklahoma City and Baton Rouge.
