KENTWOOD - A 42-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash on a rural stretch of highway.

State Police said Robert Dykes of Franklinton died when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a pickup around 6:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 1055.  Dykes died at the hospital a few hours later, troopers said in a news release.

Investigators said Dykes was speeding when the driver of the pickup turned into Dykes' path and the two vehicles crashed.  Dykes was thrown from the motorcycle.

The other driver was not injured.

State Police said the other driver passed a sobriety test at the scene.  An on-scene breath test is required when someone is killed in a crash.  Blood samples were also obtained and will be tested at the crime lab.  Police said it is unclear if Dykes was impaired.

The crash remains under investigation.
