WALKER - Police, EMS and AirMed are on the scene of a wreck involving a garbage truck and a motorcycle on Highway 16 in the Walker area.

Police took to Facebook shortly after the crash Wednesday to tell residents to avoid the area on Highway 16 near South Point and south of Griffin Lane. The motorcycle rider was airlifted from the scene to an area hospital, and the wrecked bike was towed from the scene.

State Police said the driver of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries in the crash. According to Troopers, the motorcycle crossed the center line, directly into the path of the oncoming garbage truck.

LA DOTD reported at 3:30 p.m. that LA 16 was closed in both directions at South Point, south of Juban, due to the crash. Traffic had yet to build up as a result of the closure at that time. At 3:45 p.m., traffic officials said they expect the highway to reopen within just a few minutes.
