Morning altercation leads to shooting, stabbing at apartment complex
BATON ROUGE - Police say an altercation at an apartment complex in the Elm Grove Garden area led to a shooting and stabbing Wednesday morning.
One person was reportedly shot in the chest around nine o'clock Wednesday morning at an apartment complex between Rosenwald and Fairchild. Sources said the victim had non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the suspected shooter, 25-year-old Charles Cannon, was also stabbed in the altercation. According to BRPD, Cannon attempted to flee the scene by stealing a vehicle.
Officers found Cannon after receiving a report of a stabbing victim who was taken to an area hospital from Uncas Street around the same time as the reported carjacking. Police say Cannon tried checking into the hospital using a false name and BRPD was notified.
Cannon will be charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, fugitive from EBRSO, and armed robbery.
