BATON ROUGE- An embarrassing evening Wednesday for the East Baton Rouge Democratic Party as members of the executive committee re-voted on their endorsements for a number of parish offices.

Last week the party threw its support behind State Representative Denise Marcelle for Mayor-President in a close vote against other candidates like State Senator Sharon Weston-Broome. However, procedural improprieties forced the body to redo the vote, raising the possibility for Weston-Broome to gain the endorsement. A move that would have cast a shadow over the political process.

In the end, Marcelle kept her endorsement and now the parish party will include her as its choice for Mayor-President on a sample ballot mailed out to the public. It's free publicity for Marcelle who's failed to raise funds anywhere close to Weston-Broome.
