Man surrenders after standoff with Slidell SWAT team
SLIDELL – A man surrendered himself to the Slidell Police Department following a standoff with the department's SWAT team this weekend.
On Saturday around 1 a.m., the Slidell Police Department received a phone call from a person screaming for help at a home on Hailey Avenue.
After police arrived, a resident stated that she heard gun shots from the second floor of the home and that others were still inside. Another person fled from the home moments later and told police that the suspect, Tam Minh Tran, beat her and began shooting his gun. Officers set a perimeter around the home and called for the Slidell SWAT Team.
A negotiator then arrived on the scene and made contact with Tran. After a short negotiation, Tran surrendered himself to police and was taken into custody. Tran was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and illegal discharge of weapons. According to police, Tran is a convicted felon and has been arrested 15 times for burglary, drugs and weapons violations.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division later conducted a search warrant at the home where they found and seized drugs, a firearm and drug paraphernalia. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
