GONZALES - A Louisiana State Police patrol unit was damaged after an impaired driver from Florida crashed into it in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

State police said a trooper was investigating a crash on LA 30 at Ashland Road in Gonzales when a Ford F-350 pickup truck, driven by 36-year-old Rickey Denny, Jr. of Brooksville, Florida, drove through the crash scene and hit the trooper's unit. The impact from the crash caused the patrol unit to rotate and hit a parked Department of Transportation vehicle.

Both vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the crash, and no injuries were reported.

Denny was placed under arrest for DWI after he submitted a breath alcohol test that registered nearly three times the legal limit. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of DWI, reckless operation, driving under suspension and failure to obey officer's signal.
