Livingston Parish residents ready for flooding

KILLIAN - Flood waters threatened several homes in the small Livingston Parish town of Killian after heavy rains over the weekend.
However, the people in Killian are used to high water so they have a game plan, according to resident Ronald Falgout.
"As the water comes up, when it gets close to the bottom shelf you take everything off the bottom shelf and put it on the top shelf," he said. "Then if it gets too high you start adding on. Add some cinder blocks, put the wood up there and you can put more stuff."
Falgout says most people on his street live on the second-level of their homes and have it built away from the ground. The bottom level is mainly used for storage and patio areas. Living along the Tickfaw River has its perks, but high water does inconvenience residents every now and then.
"Once it gets to the carport you know you're going to flood," said resident Lynda Andrews. "So then it's like all the neighbors around here getting along so well so we just start helping each other just start stacking as high as you can stack it. You're putting it on bricks, putting it on trailers or move it out to the road."
People along the river say they love it there and don't plan to let flood water make them want to move away.
